Second Lieutenant Howard George Weinberg, 427th Bomber Squadron, 303rd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Forces, died on April 6, 1945. He was awarded a Purple Heart. On April 6, 1945, 2nd Lt. Howard George Weinberg was on his first mission as a bombardier aboard a B-17, the "Green Hill Belle." Due to dense contrails, a mid-air collision occurred between two planes in the squadron, just shy of the target, Leipzig, Germany.  Lt. Weinberg's aircraft exploded, both planes went down. There were no survivors.  Lt/ Weinberg is buried at Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, near Liege, Belgium.
